Zanthoxylum simulans — Germination Log

Seeds acquired February 24, 2026 from MyGardenNYC on Etsy. Started in a paper towel and plastic bag setup to encourage germination.

Timeline

February 24 — Seeds received. Started in paper towel germination method — damp paper towel folded over seeds, sealed in a plastic bag.

March 25 — 5 seeds sprouted. Radicles visible and cotyledons beginning to emerge. Sprouted seeds moved individually to 3.5” nursery pots and covered to retain humidity during early root establishment.

Current setup

3.5” square nursery pots, covered. Mix: coco coir and perlite with pine fiber — perlite-heavy for drainage. Kept warm and humid while roots establish.

Next steps

Monitor for true leaf development. Uncover once seedlings are standing on their own. Remaining seeds in paper towel — watching for additional germination.
