Makrut Lime

Arrived healthy and vigorous at approximately 1.5 feet tall with good root and stem development, no visible pests. One branch was growing in an odd direction and is currently being air layered — will be removed once rooted. New growth has been quick but somewhat soft, suggesting it may be getting a bit too much nitrogen or not quite enough light relative to its growth rate. Was transplanted into a larger pot shortly after arrival and is already outgrowing that container — another pot-up is coming soon. A fast, enthusiastic grower so far.

Care

Requires at least 8 hours of direct sun daily — insufficient light produces soft, pale growth and poor pest resistance. Water deeply and allow the top inch to dry before watering again; citrus is prone to root rot in consistently moist soil. Feed every 6–8 weeks during the growing season with a citrus-specific fertilizer (high nitrogen). Monitor for common indoor citrus pests: scale, spider mites, and citrus leafminer. Never allow temperatures to drop below 50°F. The distinctive double-lobed leaves are the primary culinary product; the fruit rind (not the juice) is also used in Thai and Southeast Asian cooking.
