Philodendron melanochrysum (variegated form)
Philodendron Black Gold (Variegated)
Araceae
A climbing aroid prized for its large, velvety, deep green leaves with golden sheen — one of the more dramatic foliage aroids in cultivation. The variegated form adds cream or yellow sectoral variegation alongside the standard dark foliage.
Care
Requires higher humidity than most common houseplants — maintain 60% or above; browning leaf edges are the first indicator of low humidity. Bright indirect light is essential; the variegated form needs more light than the all-green type to produce healthy foliage, but direct sun will scorch the leaves. Allow the top 1–2 inches to dry between waterings. Provide a vertical support — a moss pole encourages climbing and produces progressively larger leaves as the plant matures. Yellowing typically indicates overwatering; browning leaf edges indicate low humidity or underwatering.
